Simulations of 3D non-hydrostatic free surface flows with SPH

چکیده
In this paper, the application of a new robust and accurate SPH scheme proposed by Ferrari et al. [1] is presented. It provides good accuracy for computing complex 3D non-hydrostatic free surface flows. This has been assesed by the comparison of the numerical solutions of dam-break and impact-wave problems against experimental data and reference solutions. Moreover, to improve considerably the computational efficiency the parallelization of the code has been carried out in order to run simulations involving millions of particles on modern massively parallel supercomputers. Thanks to the access to the infrastructure provided by HLRS in Stuttgart in the framework of the HPC-Europa Program, the author could perform applications of large scale flow problems. A very satisfactory agreement and results have been obtained.

Incompressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulations on free surface flows
The water wave generation by wave paddle and a freely falling rigid body are examined by using an Incompressible Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics (ISPH). In the current ISPH method, the pressure was evaluated by solving pressure Poisson equation using a semi-implicit algorithm based on the projection scheme and the source term of pressure Poisson equation contains both of divergence free ve...
متن کاملSimulation of Gravity Wave Propagation in Free Surface Flows by an Incompressible SPH Algorithm
This paper presents an incompressible smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) model to simulate wave propagation in a free surface flow. The Navier-Stokes equations are solved in a Lagrangian framework using a three-step fractional method. In the first step, a temporary velocity field is provided according to the relevant body forces. This velocity field is renewed in the second step to include t...
متن کاملNumerical investigation of free surface flood wave and solitary wave using incompressible SPH method
Simulation of free surface flow and sudden wave profile are recognized as the most challenging problem in computational hydraulics. Several Eulerian/Lagrangian approaches and models can be implemented for simulating such phenomena in which the smoothed particle hydrodynamics method (SPH) is categorized as a proper candidate. The incompressible SPH (ISPH) method hires a precise incompressible hy...
متن کاملA comparative study of truly incompressible and weakly compressible SPH methods for free surface incompressible flows
In this paper, the performance of the incompressible SPH (ISPH) method and an improved weakly compressible SPH (IWCSPH) method for free surface incompressible flows are compared and analyzed. In both methods, the Navier–Stokes equations are solved, and no artificial viscosity is used. The ISPH algorithm in this paper is based on the classical SPH projection method with common treatments on soli...
متن کامل3D Finite Element Modeling of Free-Surface Flows with Efficient k − Turbulence Model and Non-hydrostatic Pressure
Validation of 3D finite element model for free-surface flow is conducted using a high quality and high spatial resolution data set. The present research finds its motivation in the increasing need for efficient management of geophysical flows such as estuaries (multiphase fluid flow) or natural rivers with the complicated channel geometry (e.g. strong channel curvature). A numerical solution is...
